One on One Coaching

In a 1:1 coaching session with Heather or Tara, you’ll have a safe, grace-filled space to explore your unique journey with body image and food. Together, you’ll explore how your experiences and beliefs have shaped the way you see yourself and how God’s truth offers a better way.

Through gentle questions, reflection, and Scripture, Heather will help you uncover what’s keeping you stuck and guide you toward the freedom Christ offers. These sessions aren’t about fixing your body — they’re about finding peace through understanding your story and applying biblical truth.

I was tired of comparison dragging me down. Maybe you are, too?

I spent two decades battling my body image. No matter how I changed my body, I couldn't find contentment. I even became a fitness instructor thinking that would fix my body image issues. As a Christian, I knew that the Bible should have the answer, but I could never find it. I heard all the verses and cliches, "I was fearfully and wonderfully made" and "It's what's on the inside that counts" but they never helped me. I still struggled with believing life would be better as soon as I looked better. You can read more about my story here.

At age 31, I married a Marine fighter pilot who turned into a pastor and church planter. We cranked out four children in five years and now have kids in high school and college. We spent ten years homeschooling, which helped us spend time together despite the demands of our ministries and church.

Several years ago God showed me a path out of body image and comparison struggles. Now, through my books, coaching, speaking and the Compared to Who? podcast, I'm passionate about helping other Christian women find freedom.

My heart is to help people grow in their walk with Jesus Christ and to know there is REAL hope for their struggle.

My formal education wasn't focused on body image or any of the topics I counsel women around. (I have a Master's degree in Public Policy. Sigh.) But, my husband and I have been working in ministry for more than twenty years and during that time I've had the opportunity to counsel, encourage, and offer gentle exhortation to hundreds of women as they navigate what keeps them stuck and seek to grow up in their relationship with Jesus.

I've been coaching women specifically on body, food, and confidence issues since 2017. It'd be an honor to walk with you and help you find freedom through the truth of Christ.

This is my story of God's grace.

I was raised in a God-loving, Christian home but struggled with anxiety and depression from a very young age. I became a competitive gymnast at an early age, and by the time I was 9, I began to struggle with body image. As my struggles with anxiety, depression, and body image worsened to the point of suicidal thoughts, I turned to therapeutic help at 14. Despite years of CBT, psychoanalysis, talk therapy, church attendance, and Christian youth groups, I still felt tormented by my inner world. I started using alcohol, and eventually drugs, throughout my teen years to escape the mental torment I experienced daily.

By my early 20's, my alcohol and drug use had turned into full-blown addiction. I entered recovery at 23 and through both in-patient and out-patient programs, I entered into sobriety. This began what would be a decades-long journey of discovering the unfathomable love of Jesus and the healing truth of the Gospel.

Through this journey of surrender in recovery, I was married and soon thrown into a new crisis--a baby who faced several life-threatening diagnoses in his first few years of life. With the birth of my second child, body image issues began to consume me. Once again I found myself hitting rock bottom, obsessed with all things diet, exercise, and body image. In my desperate plea for help, God brought me to Heather in January 2022.

After finding Compared to Who? working with Heather in group coaching and then working on my eating disorder issues with a non-diet dietitian, the Lord healed and called me to this work with a fiery passion! This passion was born out of the incredible, unfathomable freedom I received from, not just body image pain, but all areas of anxiety and fear in my roles as wife, mother, friend, and daughter.

Having now trained under both Heather and registered dietitian, Char-Lee Cassel, I serve as support in the 40-Day Journey, I lead the Freedom Framework coaching groups, and offer one-on-one support to my clients. I'm certified to help women with body image and food issues through the Non-Diet Christian Academy.

I hold a BA in Psychology from Boston College and I live in the suburbs of Boston with my husband and two children.
